Where I live at the moment in Brighton is a great place to cycle. There are various different recognised routes to take and cycle paths are on a good number of the main roads. You can cycle along the seafront, past the pier, then it's only a couple of miles before your surrounded by rolling hills and green countryside. It's slightly unfortunate that the flat I rent is on the top of a hill as it makes getting home a bit of a sweat.
A bike can quite often be one of those things where it looks cool but many people rarely find the time to actually go out and use their bikes. I have numerous friends I have whose bikes just stay in the shed for years only coming out a couple of times in the summer to go down the local shop. On the other hand I believe there has been an increase in cycling over the past few years which could be down to a number of factors.
I can't really comment on what it used to be like 30 or so years ago but today there isn't many 'types' of people do don't see cycling. Whether it's the enthusiast training for competitions covering hundreds of miles, the average commuter getting to work in their suit or the kid on the BMX going down the skate park on the weekend. A bike is very convenient for lots of different life-styles, for me I like the fact that in itself it's so simple and mechanical. The amount of things that have become electronic in the last couple of decades it's nice to hear the clunk as you change gear.
There are three main topics that I want to talk about, cycling as an everyday transportation method, cycling for leisure and cycle safety and the law of the road. I will probably tackle them all at some point over the next few weeks, I hope to put blogging in as regular activity in my weekly routine this year. I was unable to post regularly before Christmas because of study commitments, being in my final year at university but hopefully this semester I will find the time to sit down and get typing. After all it's good for the mind!
