What makes the perfect weekend?

When working the whole week there is no better way to spend a weekend other than crashed out on the sofa watching films? Well no actually, as explained in this article recently featured on Lifehacker. Simply relaxing won't make you as happy as keeping active and busy.

I found myself strongly relating with this article and found it interesting that when we have the choice of what to do with our time, we don't always do the things that make us happiest, but the things that are easiest.

Steps to making your free time more enjoyable.

Step 1: Realise for yourself that sitting in front of the television for hours on end will not make you as happy as going out and being more proactive. Convince yourself of this by reading the article mentioned above to provide yourself with some motivation to change.

Step 2: Find something different to do, this can be activities such as making more time for favourite hobbies or finding a new interest. Sports or making the effort to phone friends and family and arrange time together. All of these things take a little extra effort than just sitting on the couch but have proven medium term benefits. Removing or reducing the barriers stopping you from pursuing these activities is a step in the right direction. Maybe currently you spend far to much time playing video games, try putting the games console away for a couple of days at a time, this will create the mental barrier that could sway the choice you make. I believe it is little things like that which we can do to change our lifestyle for the better.

Step 3: Make a promise to yourself to do these activities on a regular basis, specifically set time aside each week, if you are unable to make this time make it a priority to find time to do it. After all we only have one life to live why not make it as fulfilling as possible?
