Killing Killers

With the recent assassination of Osama Bin Laden for this post I will share some thoughts on shooting those who themselves are prepared to kill others. Should the death penalty be re-introduced, is killing the enemy in war less criminal than killing convicted killers?

It's not right to kill anyone, right?
In the majority of cases I wouldn't wish death on anyone, however in my opinion those who are prepared to kill someone else instantly gives up there right to life. As controversial as it is there are 7 billion of us out there, it's not as though we need those people who put others in fear. I recall watching one of those police chase programs and there was a a stand off between some guy and the police. The strategy the cops chose was to shoot the gun straight from out of the guys hands but why waste the time? I agree it was a cracking shot but could have easily gone wrong (i.e. missed) so why could they not just put everyone out of there misery and have him dealt with immediately? Chances are he probably had made other people lives misery anyway.

What if it cannot be proven?
The amount of legislation that exists today I'm guessing it's hard to prove that some one is a killer without video evidence or their hand still on the trigger. And so it should be, if it were easy then the police would have far too much power over everyone and just be going round accusing anyone who looks suspect.

Is the death penalty a good thing?
In my view the death penalty is a good things but only if proven beyond doubt that the offender is guilty, without any strings attached, should a death penalty be enforced. It's like when we send troops out to other countries scared by some conflict, in my view it is somewhat more criminal shooting at that enemy. Usually it is not the individual enemy soldiers fault. They will probably have been forced to go out (knowingly or not) to fight by some dictatorship. These soldiers are just stand in the way of getting to the real evil, those at the top. While it is also true that people that carry guns about must also have had some sort of influence they have more of a choice, especially in a developed western country.
