Often when looking back and reflecting on things you’ve done in the past memories don’t always come back as easily and as detailed as you want. This post discusses how best to document memories such as those from a holiday or your time at college through blogging.
The first tip is to blog regularly, this isn’t always easy, as sometimes our schedules can seem too busy. Allocating 15 minutes each week to reflect is a good habit to form. Even a consistent series brief notes made over a long period of time will provide an insight into your life when you read back in years to come.
Adding photos to your notes will add another dimension to your notes, taking pictures of even the seemingly mundane places such as a street in which you walk along everyday will bring back memories.
Nothing ever stays the same in the world and the chances are that revisiting somewhere for the first time in ten years and nothing will look the same. I only left senior school five years ago and already there is a brand new building in place of the one that I remember.
The same goes for people; there are many people who have come into your life for some reason or another. Whether is through work, hobby or just by chance. Keeping an eye out for a chance to include them in a photo will be another association that your brain can make with experiences of the time. Make sure you mention them in the text of your post too; it helps to remember the name as well as the face!
Make particular note as to interests such as favourite music, television programs. Again, these are aspects which otherwise could be overlooked which paint a clearer picture of how you lived.
Involving others in writing your blog will not only strengthen the bond between you but also provide another view on shared experiences. We all notice different things, find different aspects of a trip to be more or less significant.
The final point is to ensure that your efforts are put to good use, share your blog with family and friends. Beware however that you may have included some personal opinions that you wouldn’t want to share with anyone else. Read though and select parts in which you wish to share, perhaps print the best parts and make a ‘memory scrapbook’.
After all, what is life without memories?
